ACCESS INFORMATION

High Cross House, designed by William Lescaze, 1932The Dartington Hall Trust Archive is located at High Cross House, a stunning example of international Modernist architecture completed in 1932. High Cross House is open to the general public at specific times during the summer months. Click on Map to find us.

Researchers are welcome to use our unique resources throughout the year. Please note that access is by appointment only and that research space is limited. Individual visitors are welcome on both long and short-term research projects, subject to space availability. We ask those interested in using the Trust Archive to briefly outline their area of interest, and recommend a preliminary search through the online catalogue prior to making arrangements to visit.

Users will find the archive's setting within a 1930s modernist house an unexpected treat. However, because of the nature of the building we have limited space available for research use, and this is currently undertaken within an office environment rather than in a quiet reading area. We make every effort to make our researchers comfortable and to keep noise levels to the miminum, and indeed, the close proximity of a member of staff can prove beneficial to the user.

We waive fees for access to individual students conducting course-related research on production of a letter from a student's tutor endorsing his or her application. We also offer fee concessions for the unwaged, the registered disabled, and pensioners. For other individual users there is a sliding scale of charges beginning at £15 for half a day. We welcome groups for study visits by special arrangement. Laptops can be accommodated.

We are able to undertake research on your behalf, and/or provide copies by post for research purposes (subject to conditions and discretion of staff). A charge is made for this service.

Please be aware of our requirements in respect of copyright, publishing, and publication rights. Photocopying and other reprographic services are available. Permission is required to publish from the Archive, and fees apply in respect of publication of images.

The research facilities are on the first floor, and there is a chair lift for those with walking difficulties. We can arrange to accomodate researchers with severe mobility impairments; please would visually impaired users contact us for specific advice in advance of a visit.
