Administrative History: A Research Grants Board was inaugurated by the Dartington Hall Trustees in September 1931 to fund research furthering the goals and work of Dartington Hall. Research grants were dispersed by a board composed of the trustees of Dartington Hall. W B Curry and W E Hiley acted as technical advisors. Reports of all research activity were made on a regular basis to the Board. In March 1934 the Dartington Hall trustees agreed that management of a Grants Fund would come under a committee appointed by the trustees.

Description: Records of funded grant projects including forestry research by W E Hiley, research in agricultural economics by J R (Jock) Currie, laboratory research of Dr W K Slater, and funding of research for a film to be produced in India by Stan Harding on Indian traditional dance and dance drama (1931-1954). There are also records referring to Bernard Leach and Mark Tobey's travel in Japan in 1934. Includes correspondence with the National Birth Control Association (1931-1933), and the Newton Abbot Peoples Service Centre (1933-1935).
